Maria Kofterou is a visual artist born in Cyprus in 1986. She has obtained a Masters in Painting from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2009 and a Bachelors in Philosophy from the University of Cyprus in 2016. Working mostly with ink on paper, she researches and experiments with visual narrative and drawing within the traditions of sequential and scientific illustration. Furthermore, she utilises artisanal glass techniques to develop ‘receptacles’ for the drawings and do installations that are reminiscent of collections of specimens. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad. Solo shows include The floating world at the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2009 and Mix 60 parts sand, 180 parts ashes from sea plants, put them in the kiln and you will get a crystal at Phaneromenis70, Nicosia in 2015. Notable group shows include Beyond Event Horizon at Phytorio Visual Artists Association as part of the Modus Operandi/ MO17 program in 2017 in Nicosia, Join the Dots Unire le distanze, exhibition of Luciano Benetton collection at Salone Degli Incanti in Trieste, Italy in 2018 and Mirror Κάτοπτρο at Apothikes Papadaki, Limassol Municipal Arts Centre in Limassol in 2020. Her drawing Pink Mountain is part of the Cyprus State Gallery of Contemporary Art – SPEL collection. She lives and works in Nicosia, Cyprus.
